Satoshi Kanno- Monoc EP
2020-12-10
Shapes transform constantly. Human beings seem to have their own shapes, but we don't actually. Substances act the same. When the two connect, their thoughts become one,

Something different. Something of its own.

Music seems to form as well. A note flows, connects to another, then they become harmonious. They enjoy the accompaniment of each other, and eventually separate to become independent again. Free to be connected and disengaged at any time.

Precious and ephemeral.

What happens if everything gets connected together against its own will?

Segue- Gene Machines (vinyl release)
2020-06-29
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre, Segue was commissioned to create an original composition based on audio recordings from the GSC's laboratory equipment, robots and computers - to make "music" from the noise they produce.

Machine noise is a challenging palette of musical ingredients - sharp, abrasive and whirring sounds are typically unpleasant. For one night, these machines are repurposed as acoustical performers.

In the process of creative "Gene Machines", recordings were analyzed for their specific frequency profiles and then used to generate melodic or percussive sounds. Together with bass from a Moog synthesizer, the sounds were stretched, manipulated and sequenced into a series of compositions. Each composition is based on the recording from one specific laboratory machine, emphasizing its tone and timbre quality.

Mary Yalex- Some kind of joy (vinyl release)
2018-08-02
Mary Yalex - 'Some Kind of Joy' marks the German producer's first appearance on the ADSR label and the first vinyl release from the eclectic west coast collective. Having been featured on the blog three years ago, Mary's deeply personal sound now finds a more permanent home within the label's discography.

Mary's is a sound that draws influence from her upbringing near the Thuringian forest in Erfurt to her current home-base in the historically industrial Leipzig. Organic elements dance within a mechanical framework making for music that celebrates both the melodic and the melancholy.

'Some Kind of Joy' is available on hand-stamped, white label vinyl and will be stocked in select music shops in Vancouver, Tokyo and Berlin.

December Beaches- It's not fair he gets to do morphine
2017-06-12
An acid tinged two track turn-out from Chicago born producer: December Beaches. A percussion driven acidic roller coaster; Beaches wastes now time in opening the EP with flying snares and high hats jangling around rough cut analog stabs. While the B side features a classic undulating drum pattern flows against floating pads and a rapid fire synth cannon.

So Real EP

This 2 track release serves as a great introduction to Shreshth aka Lumiere's clean and dynamic productions. Delicate percussion, a rolling basslines and chugging beats keeps the tracks moving while Lumiere’s craftsmanship gradually comes to light. At times techy and cutting, other times dark and stormy, this release deserves a spot in any selectors toolbox.
